Welcome to Style Lounge- The Blog
This is our first official blog post here on our site and we are thrilled to get this started and share so many wonderful things with those willing to read.
This week, I would love to introduce the salon as well as myself…
Style Lounge was started in 2012 by the amazing, Randi Halaway. Now this is all from my own perspective and mind you, I was not there for the opening process, buttttt I know quite a lot 😉
Style Lounge was created because Randi believed that stylists, like myself, needed a home and a family. Not just a place to work… And that is exactly what she created. I could tell you all the blood, sweat and tears that went into the process, if you look around the salon, pretty much everything was done by a skinny blonde blinded by her dream; including painting chalkboard walls and putting together cabinets. But she did it all herself. Isn’t that crazy?! Just to give you a tiny glimpse of how it all happened..
So she did it, and she did it well. She opened her doors August 8th, one day after her 31st birthday and took her first client. She was the only stylist there, with 12 empty chairs around her. Little did she know, what she had really created…
And then there’s me…
Less than 3 years later, here we are. A full salon, busy, and about to take over San Diego. And here I am, fresh out of beauty school, assisting a great stylist, working my tail off to make it in this industry.
I graduated from Bellus Academy in May of 2014 with high hopes for myself. I have a colorful background in Marketing and Administration and at 20 years old, I was looking to start my career in this wonderful industry.
Being in beauty school gives you such a small portion of knowledge into the industry and into the craft.. I’m a perfectionist and my own worst critic and after a full year of 40 hours a week in school, I still felt like I knew nothing. I knew that assisting was the right path for myself. There is SO MUCH to learn about not only doing hair, but branding yourself as a stylist (I will get more into that later) that I couldn’t imagine taking any other road. And don’t get me wrong, some people don’t assist before going behind the chair and that’s okay too, I just wanted to be the best I could be and wanted to perfect my craft and charge what I was worth and I wanted to be worth a lot! That’s just me.. there’s no right or wrong way to do it so if you’re a stylist, student or assistant, don’t think there’s a right or a wrong path, there is only your path and you are in control of where that leads. Make the choice based on your own experiences and on your own personality.
So long story short, I answered an ad on craigslist, seriously I just applied randomly, I wasn’t even really looking for a job yet, but the job was obviously looking for me
If you believe in fate, let me just say, finding Style Lounge was my destiny! I am on my journey to my own hopes and dreams and I could not ask for a better place to be to watch myself grow as a stylist and as a woman.
So who is this blog for? It’s for our clients who want to know us, for the stylist looking for inspiration, for beauty school students who want to know what comes after, for anyone who can’t get enough of beauty…
I will be posting every Saturday, so feel free to let me know what you want to read about or just leave some nice replies 🙂
And so it begins!
